CenterStage Announces

2011-2012 Scholarship Program

CenterStage:  The Queens Center for the Performing Arts is pleased to offer scholarships for study in music or dance at CenterStage to talented children in Queens.  The scholarship program is made possible through funding and support from The Josephine Foundation, Macy’s, Sky View Center, the Sheraton East Hotel, the Queens Courier, and friends of CenterStage.

Auditions will be held on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from 6:00 – 9:00 PM and on Saturday, September 24, 2011 from 11AM – 5PM at CenterStage, located at 135-32 38th Avenue, Flushing, NY 11354.  

Final judging and presentation of awards will be held on Wednesday, October 5, 2011 from 7-10PM at the Sheraton East Hotel located at 135-20 39th Avenue, Flushing, NY 11354.  A reception, courtesy of the Sheraton East Hotel will follow. 

Scholarships will be awarded based on performance, interview, and financial need in the beginner, intermediate and advanced categories in music, and for beginners in dance.  Winners will be featured in a public concert with the CenterStage All-Star Band on Sunday, October 9, 2011 from 2-4PM at the Sky View Center located at 40-24 College Point Boulevard Flushing, NY 11354.

All applicants are required to provide their own CD or instrument for their audition.  A piano will be available however.  All applicants will be judged according to a point system developed by the CenterStage faculty on a variety of skills.  Final auditions will be judged by a Guest Panel of Arts and Entertainment professionals.  Finalists will be required to provide proof of financial need, submit a 1,000 word essay on their artistic goals, and sign a photo release.

There is a $25 non-refundable registration fee for all applicants.
